The train halted at Mirik railway station and as we ( my cousin Natalie and me) got down, we were surrounded by two - three men dressed in red. They said some thing in Bengali which off course I was not able to understand. Later on Natalie, my cousin, told me they are called Coolies and their job is to carry the luggage outside the station.

Our trip to Mirik was off course not planned. It was all of sudden scheduled just a day before the trip and the next day we were off to cover the exotic hill station of Mirik.

On the way we discussed almost everything on earth. We also discussed the fun that we had during our last exploration in different places. Natalie told me about her last Bengali boy friend who originally belonged to Mirik " He was a cool guy! just like the place but then he was a bit too cool , so I just dumped him. ". said Natalie. Great! I thought.

Being the youngest hill station of West Bengal, Mirik is one of the famous hill resort of East India. Far away from the hustle and bustle of the city , Mirik is a hill station surrounded by tea estates, orange orchards and cardamom plantations. If you don't want to travel through trains then you can take a two hours road journey from Siliguri to get to Mirik.

Rameetay Dara, Deosi Dara, Rai Dhap are few of the attractions that make travelling in Mirik an enticing experience. In fact, I clearly remember the first tourist attractions that we covered during our visit to Mirik is Sumendu lake.

It is a man made lake enveloped in a forested ridge, and surrounding it is a flower garden and there is also a floating fountain in its center. Though not for swimming, Sumendu is considered ideal for boating and Fishing. And it was indeed an experience by itself. I just loved sailing on the banks of the Sumendu lake and enjoying the fresh cool air of the surrounding.

After having a big day, we both came out for a nature walk in the evening. Each step we took amidst the cool ambiance brought us closer to Mirik hill station. The sensuous tranquil atmosphere was good enough for me to recall my romantic moments that I spent with my boy friend.

Well, Mirik was a small sleepy town that opened my memory box and took me to the distant past when I had a time of my life. And I consider myself lucky in knowing about the hill station - Mirik.
