For past 15 days, I was exploring the concrete jungle of the state. No doubt! Each of the tourist attractions I explored were quite fascinating and offered me ample opportunity to show my explorer skills. But still I felt the need to be away from the dust and din of the city, so we planned our trip to the most exotic hill station of West Bengal - Darjeeling. " You know if you want to continue this journey of adventure, we have another tourist spot to explore the Jaldpara wildlife sanctuary" said Natalie and when Natalie, my cousin told me about Jaladapara Wildlife Sanctuary, then I couldn't restrain myself and I instantly planned my trip to one of the most fascinating sanctuary of West Bengal. Situated in Alipurduar Sub-Division of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal, the sanctuary is about 124 km from Siliguri. It was Wednesday evening and we booked our railway tickets from Darjeeling. On the way, Natalie told me that this wildlife sanctuary is quite famous for single horned Rhinos. Every word spoken by her widen my imagination about the sanctuary and by the time we were actually there, I had already fallen in love with it. Entering into the sanctuary was equally enticing. We had to take proper entrance passes and then a guide who helped us in exploring this fascinating wildlife sanctuary. The main attraction in Jaldapara apart form its exquisite natural beauty, is the Asiatic one horned rhino. And you won't believe we were able to trace two of them on our exploration. Apart from Rhinos, the sanctuary houses the elephant, Indian bison, Royal Bengal Tiger, leopard, spotted deer and hog deer. " You know this Sanctuary was established in the year 1941 for protecting the wild life of this region." informed us the guide. Another major attraction near the Jaldapara wildlife sanctuary is the Toto Para For those interested in ethnic tourism, Tato Para is the place to visit. Toto Para is the only settlement for the Totos, one of the most endangered ethnic communities in the world. |
