Another festival that I came to know was Gangasagar Mela. Knowing about Ganga Sagar Mela was incidental. Nataile had many friends and Suvam was one of her best friends. He used to help her out every problem. Being in Natalie's place, I also became a good friend of Suvam, and we used to often meet at his house for dinners or lunch party.

On one such occasion, Suvam spoke about Ganga Sagar Mela and just a sentence was enough for me. "You know last year I was planning to go to Delhi during Gangasagar but couldn't due to my Mom's illness but this year I will be" said Suvam, Natalie friends. " Now! What is this Ganga Sagar Mela" I asked Suvam.

" Hmm... so now your brains have again started working and I am sure you want to know more about Ganga Sagar Mela" said Suvam. " Definitely" I jumped up.

"Okay, Gangasagar Mela is the largest fair celebrated in West Bengal. This fair is held where the Ganga and the Bay of Bengal form a nexus and it is named Gangasagar Mela." She said. Held in mid -January, Gangasagar Mela is a three day event held on the occasion of Makar Sakaranti, at Sagar Dwip.

" Wow! now this sounds interesting to me! " I said. " Yes! indeed, it is a lot more interesting!" He replied. This festival is a major attraction for millions of pilgrims from all over India. It is said that a dip in the Ganga purifies their 'self' and thus 'punya' can be. A special 'puja' is performed which is offered to the Sun God as a thanksgiving for good harvest. It is also believed that the girls who take the holy dip get handsome grooms and the boys get beautiful brides.

Now, I consider myself unlucky as I always wanted to be part of this fest. It would have been just lovely to participate in this fest.
