I still remember the day when I visited one of the most beautiful garden of West Bengal - The Eden Garden. It was Saturday evening when my cousin, Natalie, decided to take me to this enticing garden. Created in 1840, Eden gardens were constructed by the two sisters who were related to the Governor General of Auckland. Being the oldest cricket ground in India, Eden garden is also considered one of the finest in the world. The history of the Indian Cricket is irrevocably bound up with that of Calcutta Cricket Club, which did the pioneering work in cricket not only in Calcutta but in the whole of the Eastern region of India. The vast expanse dotted with beautiful trees and shrubs intersected by winding paths. Another good thing that I liked about the place was the Lake in the park. Adjoining the lake is the Pagoda which was brought to Calcutta from Burma after the British defeated the Burmese in the war of 1884. I really had a gala time while exploring the scenic Eden Garden of West Bengal. " Hey! let's sit down for a while." I urged my cousin and Natalie agreed instantly. We were there for around 30 minutes and then we moved back to our home. |
