When I was in Khajuraho, one of the fellow tourist told me about Varanasi, the city of lights. Although I was not very interested to visit the place but then my wife forced me to choose the trip to Varanasi. As we both moved towards the destination, I came to know that Benaras is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in India. Situated on the banks of sacred river Ganges, Varanasi has been a centre of learning and civilisation for over 2000 years. Varanasi is well linked city by air, rail and road. The nearest airport is at Babatpur (22 km) from the city. The places that I explored in Varanasi were the Ghats that were quite exotic. And I was quite fascinated to see that people from all over India throng to this place for different purposes. Some of the famous Ghats are the Asi Ghat, Manikarna Ghat, Scindia Ghat and many more. Initially, I thought that the city was small with less number of tourist spots. But I was quite taken aback when I actually explored the city as it had many tourist destination to cover. I was lucky to explore the Durga temple,Vishwanath temple, Chunar Fort, Sarnath and many more. At the end, I had a stored some very fond memories about Varanasi that will remain their for a long period of time. |
