Uttaranchal - By Mr Paul.
Escorted with a passion to explore!! Uttaranchal unveils itself and calls for exploration !!
Mr Paul, is an amateur travel writer from France. The following travelogs is written by a collage of impressions from his visit to Uttaranchal in October, 2003.

I visited Uttaranchal to experience the magic of Jim Corbett National Park, an internationally acclaimed national park . But what I found in Uttranchal was completely different from what I expected as it has much more to offer.

Uttaranchal is undoubtedly India's most beautiful canvas. The place was studded with green strokes, wild splashes and quaint highlights. The state is taken out of Uttar Pradesh, one of the largest state of India. Today, Uttaranchal itself occupies 17.3% of India's total land area with 51,125 km². It has a population of about 6.0 million at 94.4 per km². Uttaranchal borders are touched by some of the international states which include Tibet, Nepal. Neighbor states are Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The Magnificent Pieces!!
I especially liked the sketches of Kumaon and Garwhal region that were captivating enough for a person like me .The magic of Kumaon and Garwhal completely swept me off my feet. With the backdrop of the mighty Himalayas, the place endorsed countless temples that transcdented me to a different world.

Exploring the Unexplored!!!
I was especially fascinated by the nature, wildlife, adventure, and pilgrimage sites that are at their best in Uttaranchal. I happened to tour the top tourism destinations in Uttaranchal that included Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Mussoorie, Almora, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Jim Corbett National Park, Nainital, Ranikhet, and Pithoragarh.

I also tried the various adventurous sports in Uttaranchal like trekking, Skiing, mountaineering, rock climbing. For the spiritually inclined Haridwar, Rishikesh, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri and Gangotri are must visit destinations in Uttaranchal.

The Travel Begins
Well, since childhood I had heard stories about Tigers and somehow this was one creature that had always fascinated me. And I always used to link Tigers with Jim Corbett National Park . So when I got the opportunity to actually visit the place, I was almost enthralled.

From domestic airport in Delhi, I took a flight to the Joly Grant airport at Dehradun. Out of the many choices, I resorted to the one of the finest hotels in Dehradun. Another interesting factor that I noticed was that most of the good hotels in Dehradun were situated at the Rajpur Road.

As I searched net through my laptop, I found that Uttaranchal is not a small state to cover. Uttaranchal is known for its cities and I had a great time spending my time in the cities. I found that each city is a small state in itself. Each of them offered some phenomenal monuments and pilgrimage site. Being the capital city, Dehradun was the hub of all commercial activity.

Apart from cities, I had a gala time while trying the adventure that the enthralling state offered me. I involved myself in a tour that involved trekking, mountaineering, mountain hiking and many other things.

Uttaranchal also offered me to feel the cold winds of some exotic hill stations like Mussoorie, Ranikhet, Nainital etc. The unique thing that I liked about Uttaranchal was its flora and fauna. The land endorsed many wildlife sanctuaries including the famous Jim Corbet that attracted me to this land.
