Kapila vastu is one of the few destination in Uttar Pradesh that boost exotic less tourist destination. And probably this was one reason that I liked the place. Despite having less tourist spots, the place had a uniqueness that beholded us to explore it. Kapilavastu is well located place with links to all the major cities by rail and road.

The major site that we, Leena and I explored was the Stupa Complex in Kapilavastu. This is the main archaeological site which was discovered during excavations in 1973-74. Leena, my daughter was totally mesmerized by the beauty of the place. As we explored the site I found certain things that were quite unusual. The site had seals with certain inscriptions imbibed over the lid of the pot. Our local guide, Pankaj, recited the words written on the lid "Om Deoputra Vihare Kapilvastu Bhikschu Mahasanghasa" and "Om Deoputra Vihare Kapilvastu Bhikschu Sanghasa". He told us these inscriptions are famous slogans followed in Buddhism. It meant that the title Deoputra refers to Kanishka, a great patron of Buddhism who built the biggest Vihara at Kapilvastu and renovated the main stupa here.To be frank, even I had a great time while exploring the greatest buddhist site of Uttar Pradesh.
