It was easy for me to understand the culture of Uttar Pradesh, after all I stayed there for five weeks. The culture of Uttar Pradesh is as beautiful as the people. The people in Uttar pradesh are innocent and believe in simple living, quite contrary to the people in major metropolitian city of India. Being a net freak, I tend to sit on net regularly, and unbelievably I came to know some of the major facts about Uttar Pradesh. Significantly, Uttar Pradesh is one majorly occupied by hindus and it is entangled under rigid caste system. The three major caste of Uttar pradesh are Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishyas. Although contemporary, the state is still orthodox in many ways and need many years to overhaul the existing rigid system. Actually, the state is perfect mixture of Villages and suburban cities. Therefore some part of the state is traditional and consertvative and other is modern and outgoing. Since the Uttar pradesh was excavated by mughals, it endorse a unique mughlai culture in some parts especially in Lucknow. Fortunately, during my tenure in Uttar Pradesh, I came across many small and big festivals of Uttar Pradesh. Believe me! festivals are the life line of Uttar Pradesh, in fact India. Although being relgiously apart, the state beautifully come close during festive seasons. The people then forgets about the caste boundaries and celebrate the festival with equal fervor and zeal. As far as the food is concerned, I mostly got mounthwatering vegetarian dishes. It's not that they don't like Non veg, infact they boost the worl famous meat delicacies cooked in Awadh style. Average cuisines in Uttar Pradesh revolve around the simple, vegetable curries of all kinds. But there is a predominance of fried foods like the tasty kachoris and puris, which are musts especially during festivities. Believe me! I had a blast. The state astound me...... rich in heritage, culture, festivals, food............ what more I needed on my tour to India??? |
