Being in Uttar pradesh we, me and Leena, my daughter, couldn't have missed the two exotic forts of Uttar Pradesh - Agra Fort and Allahabad. Since Agra was the first place that we came to, so we happened to explore the Agra fort first. The fort is built alongside the Yamuna river and stretches almost 2.5 km. It consists of a wall built in red sandstone and several buildings inside. The wall has 2 gates, the Delhi Gate and the Amar Singh Gate. You can only enter the fort via the Amar Singh Gate. Part of the fort is still in use by the Indian Army and are not accessible to the public, but there's still enough left to get an insight on the way the Mughals lived in the 16th century. Modestly, whatever I know about Agra fort is due to my brilliant guide who helped me to explore its dynamic characterstics. After a week or so we happened to explore another magnificent piece - The Allahabad Fort. Built by Emperor Akbar in 1583 A.D., the fort stands on the banks of the Yamuna near the confluence site. In its prime, the fort was unrivaled for its design, construction and craftsmanship. This huge, majestic fort has three magnificent galleries flanked by high towers. As a tourist, these tourist spots are must in the itinerary of Uttar Pardesh. It was pleasure for me as well as Leena to explore the fascinating forts that depicted the royal heritage of the bygone era. |
