Just after exploring the Great Imambara or the Bada Imambara of Lucknow, we (My daughter and I) headed towards exploring another exotic monument - Chota Imambara. The haunt begin at 3:30 pm in the afternoon. We were escorted by the same guide, Ram, who helped us in knowing Bada Imambara. "Papa! I want to have Coke" asked Leena. She was quiet thirsty, so we had to stop in between. Ram bought snacks, Tea and Coke for us. During this period he narrated me the story of the Chota Imambara. He told me that the Chota Imambara was constructed by the third Nawab of Avadh, Muhammad Ali Shah in 1840 and was initially named Husainabad Imambara. As I heard him, my eyes strolled towards Leena, my only daughter. She was least bothered about the history of Chota Imambara. Being the only daughter, she was a little pampered by me and more so she didn't had mother....... It was her wish to come to India ..... Soon her coke was over and we all sat down in cab and headed towards the Chota Imambara. Within few minutes we were infront of the exotic monument. Ram extensively showed us the interior and the exterior of the monument. "Sir, the interior of this magnificent building has chandeliers from Belgium, lamp shades and other decorative pieces which might have costed a fortune in those days." acquainted Ram. We also saw the tombs of Ali Shah and his mother that were enclosed within the complex. Another structure that I clearly remember is the Royal bath or the 'Shahi Hammam'. "The use of marble and arches in constructing buildings on both sides of the courtyard makes one to compare it's architecture with that of Taj Mahal" I thought. The Imambara also houses silver throne of Muhamad Ali Shah. |
