Travelling in Uttar Pradesh was like a dream. The state endorsed spectrum of activities that my daughter Leena and I loved. Significantly, we covered some of the major buddhist pilgrimages of Uttar Pradesh. I came to know about these ancient places from a friend, Arnold, who visited India few years back. Unbelievably, he behaved like my guide on my tour to India. He had thorough knowledge on India.

Since we, my daughter and I, were new to the place, I opted for the pilgrimage tour that helped us to explore all the significant buddhist pilgrimages of Uttar pradesh. To be modest this was a suggestion given to me by Arnold.

The Buddhist destination that we covered were Sarnath, Kushinagar, Shravasti, Kapilavastu, Kaushambhi, Rajgir. They all were picturesque destination and fulfilled our desire to cover spiritualistic zones. The most outstanding of all was Sarnath, set in well maintained gardens Sarnath's ruins are a pleasant place to stroll amongst or meditate in. The major attractions are Asoka's pillar, the ruins of the Mulagandhakuti and the huge Dharmek Stupa.

Another significant buddhist destination was Kaushambhi, situated 57 km from Allahabad.
Buddha visited this place many times and the gave sermons after his enlightenment in 6th and 9th century. Kaushambi developed as a major center for Buddhism. The ruins of an old fort tells the saga of the towns antiquity. As recommended by my friend, we explored all the major buddhist pilgrimage destination of Uttar Pradesh. Altogether it was a nice spiritualistic journey for both of us.
