This was the first temple which I explored on my trip to Tirupati. Being one of the sacred places, Tirupati Balaji is often flanked by number of tourists from all over the world. Here you will find people from all creed and caste. " What is so special about this place ?." I asked my guide. "Oh Sir, this place holds a significant place in the hearts of Hindus." He replied. Located 853m above the sea level, Tirupati Balaji is considered one of the most opulent temples of the world. More over, the presiding diety of this temple is Lord Venkateshwara. There are several stories associated with Tirupati Balaji. Each one of them is unique and have some or the other influence on the people. With in the vicinity of Tirupati Balaji, I was able to locate number of attractions which included Swami Pushkarani, Vaikuntha Tirtham Tumburu Tirtham. These attractions made Tirupati Balaji a special place to be in. Even if you are not their for pilgrimage, it has spots which could attract any body on earth. The most impressing view of Tirupati Balaji was decorated Balaji figure. Prayers are held in the evening and prasada (Gods Gift) distributed. You can also offer prasada. I did that... I felt really nice about it. The temple is a perfect example of Dravadian Temple architecture and boast number of Gopurams. Tirupati Temple has a distinct Dravadian architecture which constitutes a ' Vimana' or the Cupola. It also in houses three " Prakaramas" or the enclosures. Every day, pilgrims in hordes visit this temple The outermost enclosure consist of the 'Dhvajastambha' or the banner post. You could also locate the statues of Vijayanagar King Krishnadevaraya and his consorts, Todarmal, the minister of Akbar. It was my guide who told me that the best time to be in Tirupati Balaji is during ' Brahmotsavam'. Celebrated in the month of September, this fest tends to attract number of tourists . Next time whenever I will plan my trip to Andhra Pradesh, I will keep in mind the festivals held here so that I can view them. |
