The discussions held with the officials were fruitful. It acted as an eye-opener to me and I have decided to be a part of the movement “Save Tiger”

Moved by the plight of the tigers on account of wide scale poaching and decreasing forest cover, I decided to know more about this majestic animal so that I can contribute my bit to save this majestic beast. For this I visited various Non government organizations to collect the data about the tiger.

From the interaction and my readings I got to know that tiger is the National animal of India. It is the very essence of Indian wildlife. Efforts are being made to save this endangered species. Awareness drives have been launched in the country to create empathy about this being. Government of India launched Project Tiger in to save the tiger. The project has received huge success. It is the result of this project that Corbett has highest density of tiger population. I had heard much about Indian tiger. I already knew that tigers are on the verge of extinction and India is the only country that provides a hope for future survival of tigers on earth. This is due to the fact that despite wide scale poaching and hunting adventures of erstwhile Maharajas, India still counts for 66% of world’s tiger population.

Bandhavgarh National Park, Corbett National Park, Kanha National Park,Sundarbans National Park, Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Ranthambore National Park are the famous tiger reserves. The famous tiger resorts are:Tiger’s Den Resort, Tuli Tiger Resort, Kabini River Lodge etc. In fact, I have extensively narrated my experiences in Jim Corbett. It was an absolute delight for me to explore one of the magnificient piece of land.

Being a wildlife enthusiast, I always wanted to know more and more about animals, particularly those majestic predators called tigers. During my visit to the various tiger habitats in India I made a comprehensive study on these mammals.

This powerful hunter with sharp teeth, strong jaws and an agile body is never out for hunting unless it is perturbed by aching hunger. But when it is hungry there is no turning back - it will stalk and pounce any small or medium sized herbivore that comes its way- it may be a deer, an antelope, a gaur or a wild pig. Their powerful claws can rip the flesh of buffaloes and zebras too. Sometimes they prey even upon lizards, birds, turtles, fishes and frogs. They generally hunt at dusk and can eat upto 40kgs of meat in a single meal.

A male grown up tiger, as I have discovered, can measure upto 10 feet in length and as heavy as 260 kgs. The female counterpart are a little smaller than the males; they grow upto 8.7 feet in length. While the females gain sexual maturity at 3- 4 years, the males lag behind by a year. After a gestation period of 98- 110 days the females give birth upto 4 cubs at a time.

A powerful hunter with sharp teeth, strong jaws, and an agile body, the Royal Bengal Tiger is the largest member of the cat family. It is also the largest land-living mammal whose diet consists entirely of meat. Its length can measure up to 10 feet and has a weight ranging from 180 to 260 kgs
