From Lonely Planet, I came to know that apart from a pilgrimage destination, Tamil Nadu is quiet renowned for its Hill Stations. Now, this was one thing that interested me a lot. The guide on my tour, Murlidharan, acquainted me there are three major hill stations in Tamil Nadu - Kodaikanal, Ooty and Kotagiri. Kodaikanal located amidst the folds of the verdant Pali hills is one of the most popular serene hill stations in India, which mesmerizes many visitor and I was one of them who was completely awestruck by the beauty of this hill stations. Apart from its scenic beauty, Kodaikanal has many tourist spots that makes it worth exploring. These included Berijam Lake and a Golf club. Another hill station that I loved was Coorg. Easily one of the most attractive regions in India, Coorg or Kodagu is an enchanting expanse of natural tourist spot that nestles amid the hills and valleys of the picturesque Western Ghats. It is the abode of coffee bushes resplendent with red berries, cardamom fields covered with white and purple blossoms, old silver oak trees laden with huge hives, and of a sturdy handsome people called the Coorgis who charm by their hospitality and cuisine, their intriguing customs and the reverence with which they worship their river, the Cauvery. In fact, Coorg is a paradise for those who want to spend some time in relaxation, away from the dust and din of the city. The other hill station that I explored were Ooty or shall I say Queen of Hill stations. Definitely a treat for eyes. The heavenly hill resort like a blushing bride peeks from behind the lofty Nilgiri hills in south India. The unassuming beauty of this heavenly hill resort beckons you to come and embrace the tranquility and solace that Ooty offer. Frankly, it was above my imagination that hill station in Tamil Nadu will be so pretty. |
