Madhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary
Madhumalai is amongst the finest wildlife sanctauries that I have explored and was good enough to give me some fond memories that I cherish from time to time.

Since Madhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary was just 65 kms from Ooty or Udhagamandalam , we, my guide and I planned to explore it. It took us around 20 minutes to reach the place through our cab. Since I didn't had to stay there, we didn't get into the intricacies of accommodation. Although Murlidharan, my guide told me that Madhumalai had two forests lodges that included Hotel Tamil Nadu, TTDC Ltd and Rest Houses, Bamboo Banks Farm, Masinagudi.

Situated on Niligiri Hills, Madhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary laid on the offshoot of Western Ghats and the eastern ghats .It was interesting for me to note that within the sanctuary, Madhumalai had another national park of an area 103 sq km. With varied vegetation, the hill terrain had dense mixer of moist deciduous forests that made Madhumalai an attractrive and most visited wildlife reserve of Tamil Nadu.

" Hey! aren't there any tigers" I asked Murlidharan. " Yes! there are but very few." replied Murlidharan. No doubt ! It was an ignorant question from my side, since Madhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary is not famous for conserving any particular animal. As a wildlife reserve, it encompasses varied flora and fauna that make it appear like paradise for environmentalists. " Definitely, it is a retreat for nature lovers" I thought.

As we moved on I was able to hear the orchestra of birds. Murlidharan told me that this reserve encompass birds like large racket-tailed dronge, the shama, the magpie-robin, spotted babbler, small green barbet, green pigeons, little brown dove, malabar grey hornbill, bulbuls, mynahs.

It was a delight for me as I was able to capture pictures of animals like elephants, Gaur, Sloth bear and Wild Dog. Since I was quiet excited by my photogenic adventure, Murlidharan told me that there are certain other animals that one can capture in a foray. Some of the animals that he showed me were Giant flying squirrel, Sambar, Hyena, Wild Dog, Wild Boar, Mouse Deer, Spotted Deer, Jackal, Hare, Parcupine and Mongoose.
