This was the amongst the first sanctuary that I explored during my visit to Tamil Nadu. Modestly, it was above my imagination since I never expected this sanctuary to be as good. Spreading over an area of about 958 sq km, Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuary brought me closer to the mother nature of Tamil Nadu. Lying close to Madhumalai National Park, Indira Gandhi National Park is indeed one of the most attractive wildlife reserve of Tamil Nadu. Although we came to Sanctaury through a cab, but just to make me aware Murlidharan, my guide told me that the nearest railway station is at Pollachi, 35 km and nearest airport Coimbatore, 75 km. This was a good information for me to jot down in my notebook. This was the first time that I was so close to nature and the beauty of a wildlife sanctuary that literally made me feel more ecstatic. Situated at an altitude of 1,400 metres in the Western Ghats, Annamalai Sanctuary is a home to different kind of animals and birds like elephant, gaur, tiger, panther, sloth bear, deer, wild bear, wild dog, porcupine, flying squirrel, jackal, pangolin, civet cat and birds like rocket-tailed drongo, re-whiskered bulbul, black-headed oriole, tree pie, spotted dove, and green pigeon. Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuary gave me all the right opportunities to explore as it had many scenic spots like Karainshola, Anaikunthi shola that made my tour to Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuary a cherishable experience. |
