Ten days Carnival
Taj Mahotsav is a non-stop 10 day carnival held annualy at Shilpgram, a
place very near to Taj Mahal. The festivities commence with a
spectacular procession inspired by Mughal splendor. There are bedecked
elephants and camels, drum beaters, folk artists and mastercraftsmen,
all geared up to create a visual delight reminiscent of the golden era
of Mughal Durbars. There are festivities all around. Taj mahotsav is
where the legendry artisans breathe life into their exquisite works of
art. Marble inlay apart, the festival brings forth an array of other
fine crafts as well- wood carvings from saharanpur, brass and other
metalware from Moradabad, handmade carpets of Badohi, the pottery of
Khurja, chickenwork of Lucknow, the silk of Banares... to name a few.
Cuisines and Delicacies
I relished the exotic cuisines and delicacies prepared by some of the
oldest exponents and typical preparations from the interiors of Uttar
Pradesh.
Dance and Drama
Soul -stirring performances from folk artists of various states held me
spellbound. A group of dancers forced me to join them and dance to the
Indian tunes. There was fun and fun and nothing else. The festival aptly
showcases India's art, and culture. Not only this, it is also a gentle
peep into the rich heritage and extraordinary legacies of this wonderful
land. After attending the tour, I realized what I could have missed If I
would not have extended my stay in Agra. Really, it was worth spending
extra money.
