Mehrangarh Fort
I snapped maximum number of photographs of Mehrangarh fort on my tour to Jodhpur.

Mehrangarh fort was another fort that I explored in Jodhpur. Jodhpur is one land that is full of surprises. First it was Umaid Bhawan, then Meharangarh fort. I was again awestruck by the enchanting beauty of these forts as I never thought that Jodhpur store so much in its yard.

I took Ranvir, my guide in Rajasthan to Jodhpur. He informed me that Mehrangarh literally means "Majestic Fort". There are, in all, three gates, each built to commemorate a particular victory, as well as to reinforce the fort.

Originally built in 1806, the fort has been added to, many times since. Oh! how splendorous! I thought, as I looked at the carved panels and porches, exquisitely beautified walls and windows of Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana seem to make the medieval splendor come alive.

In fact, I was impressed by the palaces of this fort, built in an informal pattern over several centuries. Ranvir acquainted me that they have their own peculiar style, with narrow staircases, serving as the only means of access to the royal residences within. Oh! yes, I also saw the collection of musical instruments, palanquins, furniture and cannons on the fort's ramparts that are well - preserved.
