I don't remember the day when I actually explored this revered tourist spot of Orissa. But then it indeed added a lot many memories in my memorabilia. " Today, we are planning to take you to one of the most popular tourist spots of all times - Konark Temple." said the guide. " Hmm! which place are you talking about? " I asked " Konark Temple! Sir, this is one of the best places in Orissa to explore. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Konark is resplendent beauty that will add a lot of spice on your Orissa tour" informed the guide. The Sun temple Konark is the crowning glory of the temple architecture, which flourished in the 13th century Orissa. Better known as the Black Pagoda, Konark is a beauty that adorns the landscape of Orissa. As I detailed the intricate craftmanship of the temple, I found it was in the shape of chariot with 24 wheels. And it was pulled by seven straining horses, just like any other chariot is pulled. Masterpiece of Orissa's medieval architecture, Konark temple is a marvel that needs to be explored. And I consider myself amongst the lucky few who were able to unearth the many faceted of Konark temple. The best time to view Konark Temple is during the famous Konark Dance Festival. Held in the month December, this three day extravaganza is held at an open air auditorium and tourists from all over the world throng to this place in order to view its spectrum. |
