Since I was in Orissa for month, I unfortunately couldn't view the splendor of Konark Dance festival. The festival is held at the backdrop of the World heritage Site - Sun Konark Temple. I only came to know about it through books and web sites I referred. The festival is held at the open air auditorium and reverberates with the beats of 'Raga' and 'Tala'. Held in the month of February, the fest welcomes tourists from far and wide. Konark Dance festival is held for three to seven days. During this fest, performers from different part of the world come to celebrate and showcase for India' cultural's depth. The fest actually starts with Odissi ballet " Konark Jagran" which is further progressed by " Ghunghroo". Konark temple is actually an architectural marvel and one has to spectacle the beauty of this temple in order to recapture its past. You can actually glimpse into the city past by seeing dance performances like Odissi, Bharatnatyam, Manipuri and Kathak. Apart from the classical dance forms, Chau-Orissa's own folk dance form is also performed during the festival, as are folk forms of some of the other states. |
