My trip to Bhubhneshwar is a memorable one. I can instantly recapture the time I spent over there. The city is 65 kms away from Puri. Since my trip was not thoroughly planned, I was bound to face problem. Though I reached Bhubhneshwar safely via a train but I was not able to get a good accommodation. The city is well linked by air, rail and road. Biju Patnaik airport is just 3 kms away from the city centre and is the only major airport in the city. I had to seek every nook and corner of the city in order to fetch a room that suited my budget and my need. The city boast a number of hotels which varied from 5 star hotels to budget hotels. Hotel Trident is one of the five star hotels in Bhubhneshwar. Being a budget traveller, I never thought of resorting to such a option. I looked out for budget hotels and due to their unavailability, I had to resort to paying guest accommodation. I got a room for around Rs 100 a day with food and laundry; it was not a bad option and since the circumstances were such I couldn't have thought of better choice. The city is known as the " Temple Town". The city has number of temples like the Lingaraja temple, Bindusagar, Siddharanya. The temple carries an essence of Orissan architectural style. I still remember Lingaraja Temple. I was not allowed to enter this temple and the major reason was that I was a non - Hindu. Through pamphlets and books I gathered some information about the temple. This temple was constructed in 11 th century and is one of the largest temple of Bhubhneshwar. The temple reflects ' Nagara Style" of traditional Orissan temple. The walls of these temples carry the exquisite craftsmanship. And then my visit to Nandankanan just added the tinge of adventure on my tour to Bhubhneshwar. Just 20 kms away from Bhubhneshwar, Nandankanan Tiger Reserve is one of the largest lion safari parks. The park enclosed a botanical and a zoological garden. In all, my trip to Bhubhneshwar was not that cherishable but I still remember it since I had to face many unexpected instances. |
