As I travelled through the city and around it I was thrilled at the sight of the orange orchards and strawberry fields. This winter capital of Maharashtra was a feast for my hungry soul. Breathing the fresh air in the city was quite an enchanting experience. The city is a prime industrial and business hub, yet it is free from pollution, for all the factories are located on the outskirts. My love of wildlife took me to the Bison Park, 103 kms from the city. The park is the largest sanctuary of Bisons. I stayed in Nagpur for three days and every evening I would explore the restaurants offering traditional Nagpuri dishes. At the Sangi Restaurant, Loharpool, I savoured the Nagpuri delicacies. Same was the case in Navyedan, Sitabuldi, where I tasted vegetarian Gujarati and Marwari dishes for the first time. I also visited Fort Sitabaldi, the site where a small British force defeated a numerically superior Maratha army in a battle in 1817. In the shopping front I must mention that I found some fine handwoven silk and cotton textiles and later came to know that Nagpur is famous for such stuffs. |
