Mumbai the capital city of Maharashtra, endorses many important tourist spots that are worth watching.

I have quite a fond memories about Bombay. Probably, it was amongst the finest trip that I ever had before. Bombay or Mumbai as it popularly called, has given me memories that are going to last for a long period of time or may be for the time when I will once again visit the abode.

In fact, to be frank, I never felt that I was out of town, the only diiference was that here the people had a different color. Bombay is a modern commercial city and so cosmopolitan in its appearance and habits that the visitor feels at home immediately on arrival. Intrestingly, Bombay is the capital of Maharashtra and gateway to this beguiling sub-continent.

The hindi word Mumbai is derived from Mumbadevi, the patron goddess of the Koli fisher folk, the oldest inhabitants of Bombay. Through net, I came to know that the name Bombay, in its final form, dates back to the 18th century. In fact, Bombay was a cluster of seven islands called Heptanasia by Ptolemy in 150 A.D. Geologically, Bombay forms a part of peninsular India, which is considered to be the oldest part of the country.

Guide to My travel
I have many fond memories about the city. Probably, this trip is amongst the finest trip I ever had before. Rightly said that this city never sleeps. In fact I felt much at home while exploiting the various tourist destination in Mumbai. Thankfully, the city host an International airport Sahar and Santa Cruz, a domestic airport. There is no problem in commuting the city as it is well connected through air, water and rail. Being one of the richest and prominent state the city boost many resorts that are worth trying.

The city has a dual identity with 15 million homeless living on tiny patches of pavement while the movers and shakers retire to luxury mansions on and around Malabar Hill.

As I searched the net, I found that period from November to March is extremely pleasant, light woolens being sometimes necessary in December and January. In fact, this time frame is the best to visit the abode. As a matter of fact, I also got acquainted with the fact that Mumbai is a group of seven islands which are today known as Colaba, Mahim, Mazgaon, Parel, Worli, Girgaun and Dongri. Large expanses of open sea have been filled in, and tidal swamps have been reclaimed for furthering the land area. These reclaimed areas include Church gate and Nariman Point.

The city also boost a number of tourist attraction, especially the Gateway of India and Victoria terminus. I visited almost all the tourist attraction that the city endorsed. Gateway of India is a great historical monument built during British rule. It is a monument built in Indo-Sarcenic style to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay. Gateway of India was built at Apollo Bunder, a popular meeting place. The gateway of India was designed by the British architect George Wittet. It was opened for general public in 1924.
