As I had some time left after exploring Delhi, I thought of covering all the avenues as I could. Mathura is located 145 km south east of Delhi, and 58 km northwest of Agra. Since the city was small, I covered the major tourist destination by myself. The first one that I thronged to was Jama Masjid that was built by Abo-in Nabir-Khan in 1661.A.D. the mosque has 4 lofty minarets, with bright colored plaster mosaic of which a few panels currently exist. And then I also explored the Dwarkadeesh Temple that was built in 1814, it is the main temple in the town. During the festive days of Holi, Janmashthami and Diwali, it is decorated on a grandiose scale. I was surprised to see that the small city like Mathura boosted a good number of tourist destinations. The other destination that I covered was Gita Mandir, Govt Muesum and the Krishna Janama Bhumi. |
