When I was in Jaipur, I came to know about another exotic city Mandawa. This exotic abode is situated at North Indian State of Rajasthan that is 190 km from Jaipur. Since I was new to the place, I thought of taking an expert with me who knows every nook and corner of Rajasthan and the only option I was left with was Ranvir Singh, my tourist guide. Commuting to Mandawa was not a problem as it is a well linked city with rail and road. My guide told me that MANDAWA was founded by the Shekawats in 1755, though most of its paintwork dates from the early nineteenth century. In fact, I was surprised to see that the town's impressive fort , right in the centre, now houses the most famous hotel in the region, whose prominence on the upmarket tour-group trail has made this a more tourist-oriented place than anywhere else in Shekhawati. However, the handicraft shops, touts and guides clustered around its cannonball-chipped walls detract very little from the beauty of the nearby mansions. In addition to some fine monuments, I also found that Mandawa harbors a better-than-average batch of hotels, among them one of the few genuine havelis run as a budget guest house. I also explored some of the famous tourist destination that includes Gulab Rai Wadia Haveli and Thakur Ji haveli. |
