Though we were skeptical about our stay in Orccha, the place turned out to be a pleasant surprise for us. |

" What Ochhhhhhha? " Rinnee asked. "No, Darling its Orchha, a small city of Madhya Pradesh" I replied. " Will it be okay for us to actually visit this place" questioned Rinnee. " Perfectly okay and I promise that you won't get bored on your trip to Orccha". I said. As I went through a famous travel magazine - Travel Plus, I came to know that Orchha was founded in the 16th century by the Bundela Rajput chieftain, Rudra Pratap, who chose this stretch of land along the Betwa river as an ideal site for his capital. Of the succeeding rulers, the most notable was Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo who built the exquisite Jehangir Mahal, a tiered palace crowned by graceful chhatris. It was not a great difficulty for us to reach Orchha as it lies on the Khajuraho and Jhansi road. Located at a distance of 16 km from Jhansi, Orchha rises out of the hills and the greens surrounding it. Since we decided to spend one day in Orchha, I booked my room in Orchha Resort , a hotel situated on the banks of the Betwa river. We entered resort at around 11 AM in the afternoon and were out by 12 PM to explore the fascinating tourists spots of Orccha. Unbelievably, Orchha had many tourist spots to explore that included Jehangir Mahal, Raj Mahal, Rai Praveen Mahal, Ram Raj Temple, Chaturbhuj Temple, Phool Bagh. Out of all I vividly remember about Jehangir Mahal - the greatest piece of architecture built by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo to commemorate the visit of the fourth Mughal Emperor Jehangir who visited the place in 1606. " Hey! I never imagined that this place will have so many tourist spots" Said Rinnee. Even I didn't expected, I thought but never mentioned it to Rinnee. Being the medieval city of India, Orchha is far from modernization and beholds the incredible legacy of Madhya Pradesh. |
