Another magnificent site that we explored in on our tour were the Bimbteka caves. Being one of the famous World Heritage Site of India, we just couldn't miss it on our Madhya Pradesh tour. Dating back to 35000 years old, the caves were a surprise for us. We Never expected them to be so pretty.

Actually Bhimbteka is a small abode that lies 46 km south of Bhopal. In this rocky terrain of dense forest and craggy cliffs, over 600 rock shelters belonging to the Neolithic age were recently discovered. Actually, when we came out to explore Bhimbeteka Caves, we thought it to be just another tourist spots without realizing that the place that we are actually exploring is great site. The paintings in over 500 caves offer great panoramic detail, thus making Bhimbetka Group an archeological treasure.

The local guide that we took on our exploration told us these paintings have been divided into seven different periods

* Upper Paleolithic: green and dark red, linear paintings of huge figures of animals such as bisons, bears, tigers, and rhinoceroses.

* Mesolithic: smaller, stylized figures with linear decoration on the body, hunting scenes showing weapons, dances, and musical instruments give an idea of Mesolithic life.

* Chaleolithic: these drawings reveal that the cave dwellers had come in contact with the agricultural communities of the Malwa plains.

* Early Historic: pictures of Yaksha, tree gods and magical sky chariots.

* Medieval: geometric, linear and more schematic but they show degeneration and crudeness in their artistic style.

Rinnee, my wife, just loved the place. She was so mesmerized the beauty that till date she remembers Bhimbeteka caves.
