Khajuraho Temples
Khajuraho is indeed a destination exquisite and An architectural marvel, the complex of 85 temples were constructed by the Chandela kings. The temples have sublime and sensuous sculptures, portraying a journey into eternity.

No doubt we had heard about this place as an architectural paradise, but what we saw was outstanding. Before narrating my experience, I suggest one must always hire a guide as you will walk by most of the eminent sculptures, without being aware of their presence & importance. It is good to have a guide who has an in-depth knowledge of each temple and sculptures. Besides, the guides here are not at all expensive.

We had a fantastic view of spectacularly preserved sculptures of Khajuraho temples, one of the finest. forms of art I had ever seen in my life. We first visited the temples of the Western Group, as it had some of the most prominent temples of Khajuraho The beautiful temples were situated amidst a setting of green lawns, colorful shrubs and flowerbeds. I really have to see the dictionary to find a new word for excellent, good, great, ... so that it matches with the beauty of these temples.

This was my first experience traveling in India, and it could not have been better. I also loved the temples of the Eastern Group. The eastern group of monuments is situated in close proximity of the Khajuraho village. It included three Hindu temples known as Brahma, Vamana and Javari and three Jain temples, the Ghantai, Adinath and Parsvanath. The Southern Group of monuments also comprised of many beautiful temples.

We talked to some other tourists, many were Indians & some foreigners. Few of them were disappointed as they expected more due to the exaggeration of travel guides. But, we were in complete awe after seeing these glorious temples and relished each and every moment of this extraordinary vacation. The pure beauty of human relationship depicted in Khajuraho temples flared up our imagination.

Western Group of Temples
I was quite impressed to see the Western group of the Khajuraho temple that are centrally located in Khajuraho and are the largest group in Khajuraho. In fact , it was interesting to notice that this group housed several temples that were worth exploring. The first one that I scrutinized was The Kandariya Mahadev This temple is within the Western Group and is a good example of Hindu architecture. My guide told me that it represents the Central Indian style of temple architecture.

It is one of the most developed and the highest temple, towering 31m high. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has marble Linga in the inner sanctum. Then I also examined The Matangeshwara Temple along with my guide. I came to know a notable fact over here, my guide informed me that this is the only temple within the complex, where the Lord Shiva, the presiding deity is still worshipped everyday with prayers and rituals.

"Sir, this is Laxman temple and you can say that this is one of the finest and well preserved temple of the Khajuraho." as my guide showed me the temple. He also showed and detailed me about the Devi Jagdamba temple, dedicated to goddess Parvati, Indian goddess. He showed me the sculpture of mithuna, a sensuosly carved figures of amorous couples. My guide also showed me the Chausanth Yogini and Vishwanath and Nandi temple. Oh! I was left spell bound when I actually saw the intricate architecture of the temples.

Eastern Group of temples
" You said Western group of Khajuraho temple are the largest but these are no less" I said to my guide. My wife was so mesmerized by the beauty of the temples that she forgot that I was along with her. She explored most of the temples by her own. The Eastern group are mainly Jain temples as told to me by mu guide. He then tooke me to the Parsvanath Temple, one of the largest of the Jain temples and is dedicated to Adinath and later to Parsvanath and The Shantinath temple "Sie these are the youngest temples and has a 4.5m Statue of Adinath" He also showed me the Brahma temple built in early 10 th Century has sand stone sikhara on the granite structure.

Southern Group of temples
After exploring the two major sites of Khajuraho temples, I covered the third major site the southern temple of Khajuraho. oh! It was an ecstasy to see the marvel sculptures of the southern temples.

he first one that I explored was the Duladeo Temple that is dedicated to Shiva,Indian god, the apsara and ornamented figures are the temple's most striking features. Then the guide also showed me the Chaturbhuj Temple, a massive, intricately-carved image of Vishnu. "you know, within the temple, a sound and light show is held."

This fascinating Son-et-Lumiere spectacle evokes the life and times of the great chandela Kings and traces the story of the uniue temples from the 10th Century to the present day. Mounted in the complex of the Western Group of temples, the 50 minute show rounds in Hindi and in English every evening. Amitabh bachchan, the Indian super star, narrates the story of Khajuraho in his mesmerizing voice. What a pleasure..it was to actually explore the beauty of the temple that were made thousand of years ago....
