Khajuraho
Dance Festival |
It was sheer luck that our visit coincided with the world famous Khajuraho dance festival. Usually this internationally famed dance festival is held each year between 25th February to 2nd March. Raju assured us that this dance festival was very promising and we would surely have a good time. I came to know that this classical dance festival was held to celebrate the glory of the various temples of Khajuraho. As dusk fell, we reached the venue of the dance festival. It was a dream sight! The temples were lit up with shimmering fairy lights. Two elaborately dressed women were dancing against the beautiful backdrop, in the open-air auditorium. Later, I came to know that this form of dance is known as Kathak and those two women were among the most accomplished classical dancers of India. The flow of their body was matching with every beat of the background music. We couldn't help but watch the dance with undivided attention. After the Kathak concert, I asked my wife, if we could go back to the hotel and relax? But no, she was in no mood to return back to hotel. So, after grabbing something to eat in a small shop, Raju took us to an open market space, where we bought some local handmade garments and articles. I realized that Khajuraho Dance Festival was not just about watching various dance performances but it also included lots of fun n' frolic. |
