The next beach I covered was the Varkala beach, also known as Papnasam beach. This beach is 42 km from Thirivananthpuram. Take a dip in this water suggested one Indian tourist. Why ? I asked. On this he told me that the beach is considered holy, and it is believed that a dip in this water washes away your sins. Wow! What's that? I asked that fellow who was busy washing his past sins. Oh! That is Janardhana temple. This is a 800 year old temple dedicated to Agyappan and HanumanHe told. As I nodded, he added Indian gods. Since the dip in the holy waters of this beach is believed to purify the body and the soul of all the sins hence the name 'Papanashini or the destroyer of sin for this shore. |
