In the morning I was having my herbal tea, when Murli, my guide, called me. Please get ready by 10'0 clock. We will go to Alleppey He requested. O.K I replied. Since the time was less, I quickly took my breakfast. After my breakfast was over I went through a travel magazine and came to know that Alleppey or Alappuzuha is a district in Kerala. And it is famous for its boat races, coir products, houseboats, fish and lakes. On the way , Murli told me Alleppey is popularly known as Venice of East and endorses a large network of Indian canals. Earlier I was not very keen to visit this place but when I saw the breathtaking scenery, I felt I was wrong. The first place that we visited to Alleppey district was Punnamada Kayal where one of the famous boat race-Nehru trophy boat race is held every year. The next spot I visited was Krishnapuram Palace. Murli told me that this a 18th Century Palace was built during the reign of the Travancore Monarch. It houses one of the largest mural painting in Kerala called Gajendra Moksham. Alleppey is known for its backwater, I registered myself to one of the backwater cruise available. As the well decorated houseboat swiftly moved on the blue water, I felt as if the swaying palm tree opened their arms to welcome me. The Alleppey market have large quality of rice, green coconuts, red chillies and a fat rough skinned jack fruit. |
