I had an exotic time cruising on the backwater. I engaged myself in a tour that covered some of the known backwaters through houseboats. “ Wow” I exclaimed, when I saw the kettuvallams or the houseboats.

The Kettuvallams offered best possible accomodation. The owner of the houseboat, Laxman, told me that it takes great skill and labour to construct these houseboats by trying huge planks of Jack wood together.

Believe me! The interiors of the boats were of par excellence. The houseboat are available in all shapes and sizes. The wooden houseboat had a bedroom, kitchen and all the facilities that a luxury hotel provide.

I had to pay Rs 6000 for a day and night stay on the exotic houseboat. But there are cheaper boats available.The magic of the mystical backwaters is such that I forgot all the tensions that I had. Through Laxman, I came to know that the best time for cruising is from October to March. Since Kerala is os hot, I thought of wearing casual clothes in cotton and this was a good decision.
