Kerala and Kerala Backwaters were explored
by Steven, a traveler from Canada, in August 2004 and he
has contributed his narration about the exotic abode.
When I visited the exotic land, Kerala backwaters were much talked about thing. And this created an interest in me to explore the sparkling blue backwaters. And as I reserched I came to know that kerala backwaters are the most enthralling feature of Kerala. The stretch! One day I was sitting in my resort watching a special programe on Kerala backwaters. Through the programe I got aquainted with the fact that backawaters were formed by the accumulation of sea water at the beach. As the waves moved to and fro, they made their way tearing the ground and forming backwaters. The backwaters are essentially inland lakes connected by a network of canals. The backwaters stretch to almost 1900km(Kerala's coast line is only 900km Blue water!! Sir, the best backawater in Kerala is the luring Vembanand Lake. And I couldn't stop myself when I saw the exotic backawater and opted for a backwater cruise . The best way to enjoy the Kerala backwaters is to take a cruise on a Kettuvallam or the house-boat. The real adventure lies in enjoying the sound of water ripple when the rudder touches the water and cover endless stretches of water without getting down anywhere Sailing through the water!!! In fact , I feel that there is a Kerala that lives along these backwaters. And it's was an incredible experience for me to sail down the soothing waters in a country craft to absorb this unusual representation of Kerala life. My venture on Backwaters After working continuously for more than a year, I realized that the time had come for me to take the much awaited break and visit a place, which could provide me peace & serenity. My travel agent suggested me to visit Kerala. He assured me that this trip would prove to be a perfect hideaway from my busy schedule Taking his suggestion into account , I headed towards the backwaters of Kerala. I thoroughly enjoyed the boat journey on the backwaters of Kerala. The houseboats were absolutely wonderful and extremely eco-friendly, as they were made of bamboo poles, coconut fiber, ropes, bamboo mats, carpets etc. The name Kerala means the"land of coconuts", as the numerous palm trees covered nearly the entire state from the tropical sun. I visited various spellbinding attractions in Kerala like backwaters, beaches and waterfalls & traveled through an intricate network of lagoons, lakes, canals, estuaries and the deltas of various rivers. The days spent on Kerala backwaters allowed me to live a distinct, yet a relaxed lifestyle. I was so enamored by the end of the journey that I decided to take a trip back to this wonderful land, which has been aptly described as God's Own Country. |
