I planned my trip to Gulamarg and Sonamarg, after I came to know that these two places endorse many adventorous sports. And when I serached the net, I found that they also have many tourist attractions." Wilson, what more you need?" I thought. Gulmarg was the first place that I explored. Gulmarg is located in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. At an amazing altitude of 2730 meters above sea level the hill resort has a gently sloping topography. Gulmarg is 57 km southwest from the capital city of Srinagar and is close to the Indo-Pakistan border. Through a travel book, I came to know that Gulmarg have one of the world's highest green golf courses. For the future golfer, there are golf sets on hire, pros to instruct one in the game, and temporary memberships, including one-day memberships. Naturally, these facilities are available to players. For a fun-filled ride of a most unusual kind, Gulmarg's newly constructed gondola lift from high above Gulmarg, through pine-clad slopes, is exhilarating. Gulmarg is the ultimate beginner's skiing resort. The gentlest slope of 200m is linked with a ski lift, which helps one to go up. When one graduates to intermediate level - which will happen after the first few days of practice, there are other slopes, longer and steeper, which are connected by chair lift. The longest ski run in Gulmarg is provided by the Gondola cable car, which allows a ski run of 2,213m. As I part of sightseeing tour, I visited Khilanmarg, Alpather lake, the Ningli Nallah and The Ferozpur Nallah. After Gulmarg, I popped in Sonamarg. Sonamarg is situated at an altitude of 2740 m above sea level. The hill resort of Sonamarg lies 80 km northeast of Srinagar in the Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir. The enthralling Sonamarg has several sights, sounds and smells to offer to its tourists. Out of all I found the Nilagrad, a tourist spot, to be the best. Nilagrad is a colony of the Baltics where a small stream meets the River Sindh. The Baltics believe that the reddish color of water is due to its curative properties and bathe in the river every Sunday. At the Sind River that flows through Sonamarg, I indulged in trout and mahseer fishing. The adventure seekers may opt for trekking trails from Sonamarg to lakes of Vishansar, Krishansar and Gangabal. How can forget to tell about the Nichnai Pass, a old point, that offered panoramic view of the beautiful lakes of Vishansar, Krishansar and Gangabal. Adding to the beauty of Sonamarg is the Bisansar Lake & Krishnasar Lake. |
