I never knew that I would have got so much of tranquility while exploring the caves of Amarnath. |

Oh! how can I forget my first foray with the Amarnath caves? They have left a deep impact on my brain as well as on my heart. Amaranth caves are situated at 3888 mtrs and 46 km from Pahalagam and 141km from Srinagar. Interestingly, Amarnath yatra is scheduled everyyear during July and August and is organized by Jammu and Kashmir Government. Amarnath Yatra is one of the largest event in India and Hindus from all over the world throng to this place in order to pay homage to the Ice Ling am. Till date, I wonder, how I trekked the route from Pahalagam (the place from the trek actually starts) to the caves. The caves are devoted to Shiva (Indian god) and Paravati(his wife). A special Ice Linga, a idol of Lord Shiva, is formed and tourist/ devotees come to this place to pay homage. It's not an easy trek as the temperature is low as well as the height at which the caves are situated is unbearable for some devotees to trek. In fact, I had to go special medical check up despite being in good health. I also had to take a special orders from the Government of India and there are many other regulations.......I can very well understand the reason behind it. The place is not quite safe as many devotees has been attacked by the terrorist and I found myself lucky that I was allowed trekking to this place. Another fortunate thing that I came back safely. |
