I am a fond of eating, and I can eat and try any number of dishes offered to me. In India, I satisfied my taste buds with number of mouthwatering Indian cuisines. As we know that India is a land of diverse culture and this fact is well depicted through its food. As I had traveled all over India, I got some new taste and some new dishes. The dishes in North India were different from South and so were the dishes of West India from East. Since India is one state with great geographical difference and boost eight climatic zones, hence the food made there depend upon the climate of the region. Oh! yes, I cannot forget the specially two regions of India, one is Kerala and another is Rajasthan. In Kerala, I was served Sambhar ( a dish made from Sambhar Cereal ), Coconut Chutney, and rice on a banana leaf and I was actually asked to sit on a patna ( four legged small stool) in order to eat that. That was the something that I had never done before... out of the dining table straight on the floor ... it was an experience by itself. And if I have to tell you about Rajasthan.... I have no words, all I am left with is water.... lot of water...as the food that I ate was very spicy but that doesn't stop me from eating them. Perhaps the best known Rajasthani food is the combination of dal, bati and churma but for the adventurous traveler, willing to experiment, there is a lot of variety available. Besides spicy flavors, each region is distinguished by its popular sweet - Ladoos from Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, Malpuas from Pushkar, Jalebies from most big cities, Rasgullas from Bikaner, Dil Jani from Udaipur, Mishri Mawa and Ghewar from Jaipur. Then I also tried the Rajma Chawal (spicy Kidney beans and Rice) and in sweets, I tasted Rasgulla and Gulab Jamun. Each region of India boost a specific dish that has been linked to it over a period of years. I have tried to mention few major regions of India along with thier delicacies : Bengali This was a good place to explore and with god's grace it boosted a good dishes. Situated on the eastern coast, Bengali cuisine offers spicy fish dishes. Its "burnt milk" sweets are reknowned across the country. I especially enjoyed the Rasgullas. Goan This was another place where my taste buds were overloaded with work. Situated on the western coast, Goa state is famous for its coconut fish curries and pork vindaloo. The starch of choice in Goa is rice. Kashmiri At the foot of the Himalayas, the Kashmiris dine on lamb, goat, chicken and dried fruits. A side dish similar to cottage cheese, called chaman, will often accompany meals. Maharashtran Maharashra is the home state of Bombay, now known as Mumbai. Meat dishes are very popular, and Bombay street food is considered some of the best. |
