Explore the roof of the World! Tibet was one place I seriously wanted to visit. Being the largest and highest plateau on the earth, the small state is surrounded by the jumble of mountains found in the continent. The Himalayas stretched for almost 3,000 km storming its boundary and along the western extremity it is guarded by the rugged Karakoram. I was quite astonished to know that between these two ranges lies all the fourteen major peaks of the world including the Mount Everest !!!. Tibet lies in the region known as trans Himalayas and this region covers an area of about 1000 km. Well, I liked the region as Trans Himalayas are not divided by deep river gorges, unlike the main Himalayas. Adventure is a passion.......So explore!! Since I have heard that the best way to trek Tibetan Himalayan is through cycling, so I enrolled myself to one of such tour conducted by the private tour operator. And I trekked the major trekking area that lies in the Everest region, Kailash Mansarovar yatra , Nam chag Barwa trek. I especially liked the Nam Chag Barwa Trek. It is a short trek and could be of importance to nature lovers and botanist. It included the delightful Nyima La and lushly forested Rong Valley. Before actually starting our treks, we had to take two permits one a Chinese visa that we had to apply in the Chinese Embassy. The other one was from Tibet Tourism bureau. A Warm Welcome to the Mountains!!! Well, I was quite impressed by the Tibetan people and their hospitality. The Tibetans are considered of Central Asian nomads. The climate of the place is moderate with not too cold winters or too hot summers. If the people are not farmers than they are yak-herding nomads. As a matter of fact, when I earlier used to think about Tibet, the first thing that used to come to my mind was Buddhism but after covering the region, I found that it has much more than that. |
