Well, after covering all the major peaks, we came to know that there is one more peak that we should explore. It was Nanga Parbat, whose name means Naked Mountain. As I went through one of the brochures, I came to know that this is the ninth highest mountain in the world. Its vast snowy face is a powerful spectacle when seen from the arid Indus Valley, approaching the mountain from the west. Here the mountain towers in isolation over 22,000 feet from the valley floor As I explored the mountains, I came to know through the local people that it was named Murder Mountain by the Germans. Infact another thing that I came to know was thet Albert Fredrick Mummery was the first one to venture on this mountains. I was shocked to know that no other peaks claimed lives with such sickening regualrity. The guide aquainted me with the fact that Nanga Parbat has three faces, The Rahikot dominated by north and south silver crags and Diamir face that was rocky in the beginning. The rupal Face is the highest precipice in the world. |
