Foliar Wildness! Since the Himalayas are covered with variety of flora and fauna, I always used to think that it must be having an exotic wildlife. As I opened one of the brochures, I was quite amused and found that the Himalayan region have ...not one or two but many wild life sanctuaries and national park. So the next day I barged into tour operator office and asked him for a tour that could cover the maximum number of wildlife. Next day, we three and a guide were on our expedition to different National Park that this mountainous region endorsed. The first national Park that we popped in was Corbett National Park. I was easily able to notice the varied topography and vegetation and that provides with it rich diversity. My guide told me that this park was established in 1936 as the Hailey National Park, following the advice of the hunter naturalist Jim Corbett. Well, he also told us that the park has 110 varieties of trees, 51 species of shrubs and over 33 kinds of bamboo and grasses. The Wild amongst the Greens!! The other national animal park that I visited to was Great Himalayan National Park. This National Park was created in 1984, the Great Himalayan National Park lies in the Seraj Forest division in the upper catchment areas of Jiwa, saint and Tertian rivers. Well, My guide told me that this area supports diverse large mammals and avifaunal communities. He also told me that there are 152 species of birds out of which 68 are residents and 49 summer visitors. As my friends and I continued our Journey in Indian Himalayas , we accidently happened to find another animal National Park in Arunachal Pradesh. As I collected the brochures from the tourist office at the park, I got acquainted with the information the Namdapha was declared National Park in 1983 and in the same year it was covered under Project Tiger Scheme. I was quite impressed by the flora and the fauna aspect of Namadapha's biodiversity that is rich and dazzling. Well, Himalayan as a region is quite rich in biodiversity, so it is important to include the wildlife in any itinerary one choses for Himalayas. |
