Close to Kullu lies Manali, since I was so near to it, I thought of exploring the various dimensions that the city offered. Manali is another hill station that lies 40km from Kullu. Manali is known as the Valley of Glaciers as it boost snow capped mountains, water falls. Well, I took cab to land on this paradise but it is a well connected city with Bhuntar airport, 52 kms south of Manali, and the nearest rail head is at Chandigarh. There are many resorts available in Manali but Quality Inn Apple Country and snow valley resort are quite famous. Without any reasons, I opted for the latter or may it was the name that I liked. I took a sightseing tour with a local tour operator that helped me to explore the various tourist destination in Manali. I started my tour by first visiting the Rohtang Pass that is about 51 km from Manali. I was left spellbound when I saw the exotic Dishar lake. The Pass, that provides the only access to the Lahaul Valley, is open from June to November each year. It was very cold and the enthralling pass offered me panoramic view of the majestic mountains. Then, our guided tour took me to Dhungiri or Hadimba temple, one of the most important temple in the region. This four-story wooden temple is located in the middle of a forest called the Dhungiri Van Vihar. The other place that I visited was Vashist Springs, Jagatsukh that lies 6-kms from Manali. It is one of the biggest villages in Kullu district. About 6-km from Manali, Jagatsukh is famous for its Shiva temple that is built in "shikhara" style and nearby is the old and interesting Devi Sharvati temple. I also tried my hands in various adventurous sports in Manali, that included rafting, Skiing, paragliding. |
