Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, was the initial place of my stay. I visited Kullu to fix the deal with one of the exporters of apples. Since, this was my first visit to Himachal Pradesh, India, I thought of exploring various destination that Himachal Pradesh has. Kullu is again a well connected place and with Bhuntar airport at 10 km from Kullu. The place is accessible through rail and road network. HPTDC ( Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation) deluxe buses connects the state to other neighboring state as well is the mode of conveyance within the city. Being a small city, it does not boost many hotels. I opted Apple Valley Resort, a 4 star hotel, on national highway, The Resort lies 5 kms from the Bhuntar Airport and is the ideal retreat for a dream holiday. As I was going through one of the brochures in my hotel, I found that HPTDC conducts sightseeing tour in Kullu. Apart from there are local tour operators who provide sightseeing tour in private cab. I found the later better. So, without wasting time I called up the tour operator and fixed up my tour in Kullu. He also provided me with a English speaking guide, Sachin. The first place I visited was the Ragunathji temple that was 1 Km from Kullu. Sachin told me that the temple was constructed in 17th century by Raja Jagat Singh of Kullu. To atone for the sin he sent a senior courtier to Ayodhya for a statue of Lord Raghunath - Lord Ram.The shrine houses an image of Shri Raghunath in his chariot. Sachin then took me to Bijli Mahadev Temple. " Unbelievable!" I exclaimed when I came to know that this temple is famous for its 20m high rod that periodically draws lightning, which shatters the 'Shivalinga' and scorches the building. Using only butter as adhesive, the 'linga' is then carefully pieced together by the temple pundit. I also thronged to the places nearby that included Jagatsukh, Naggar and Deo Tibba. Out of which I loved Deo Tibba. My escort informed me that Deo Tibba is also known as Indralika. There is a 2,953 metres (9,687 ft.) high snow dove Jagatsukh, has a legend around it, with Arjuna. He started performing 'tapa' at this mountain, under the advice of Maharishi Vyas, in order to obtain the powerful Pasupata Astra from Indra. Kullu also endorses various trekking and fishing regions. This includes Kasol, Raison, Katrain and Largain. There are various trekking routes in Kullu. Some major ones are over the Chanderkhani Pass to Malana and Pin Parbati Pass to Sarahan. The Jalora Pass lies 5-km beyond Shoja and gives access to the outer Seraj region of the Kullu Valley. |
