I was quite astonished to know that Ecotourism In India has gained so much of momentum. Earlier I used to think that this phenomenon is popular only in west but my visit to Himalayas have cleared all my superficial thoughts. As we approached a local tour operator, apart from giving instructions about the tour, he also handed us a booklet on Ecotourism. The brochures said that, the rivers and springs should not be polluted with detergents or any harmful chemicals. This was the first instruction I read when I opened the brochures. Degrade the Plastics!! In addition to that , he also told us verbally that we, my friends and I, should avoid any sort of littering. If we are using any plastic cans or bottles we should take them back to our resort and try not to create unhealthy environment in the Himalayas. In fact, he emphasized that we should not play with the flora and the fauna as it would be considered illegal. I also located some signboards that depicted the loud music or horns were not allowed in the region. As I analyzed these measures I found that they were not different from what we have in our country. Respecting the laws !!! Respecting the Indian culture, maintaining privacy, following the rules are some basic norms that I think that one should follow while exploring another country. In fact, I was impressed by the usage of Green laws of conservation, that enables the man and the environment to live symbiotically. |
