After surveying the entire Himachal Pradesh, one thing that came in
front was that it was a hub of hill station. The state has many hill
station and each region is quite unique from other. Chamba was founded
in 920 AD but King Sahil Verma who named it after his favourite daughter
Champavati.
I cannot say that Chamba is a well connected hill station but it could
be accessed through different mediums. The nearest airport is at Gaggal.
Chambal could be acccessed through road.
As I enrolled myself to the city sightseeing tour, I happened to visit
places like Laxminarayanan Temple, Bhuri Singh Museum, Chamunda Temple,
Maharajah's Palace. The most exciting of all the was Lakshminarayanan
Temple- there are group of six ancient temples carved in stone, with
tall vimanas. The temple is dedicated to both Shiva and Vishnu, they
were built around the 8th century AD.
In fact, Bhuri Singh Museum also impressed me, as it has a collection
of fine miniatures from the Kangra, Basholi and Chamba schools of
painting. There are also murals and paintings from the Rang Mahal Palace
that was damaged by fire.
Apart from various temples, Chamba had many palaces that included
Maharaja's Palace and Rang Mahal. The guide on our tour told us that
Maharaja palace belongs to the erstwhile rulers of Chamba. I especially
liked the Rang Mahal or the Painted house that was built by Raja Umed
Singh in mid 18th century. As I explored Rang Mahal I found that It has
a unique architecture. The guide told us that this place reflect Mughal
architecture. As I surveyed Rang Mahal I found that the Palace was
packed with exotic paintings.
