I had been in India for last two months and unbelivably, I have covered all the major hill stations in India. In the south, I explored the second major hill resorts. Popularly known as the Princess of Hill stations, Kodikanal is the only hill station in India, that have been founded during the Bristish Raj by Americans. Hilly Kodaikanal! I had to travel to the Palni hills in order to experience the magic of the hill stations. I was quite surprised to know that it was nestled at an altitude of 2133m. I had to take a flight to Madurai airport,120 km from Kodikanal. In fact, the city is well connected through rail head as well as road. The nearest rail head Kodai Road Railway station is just 80 km from the hill resort. As soon as I got out of the airports, I was surrounded by number of cab drivers who wanted me to escort with them to the hotels of their choice. But, I had been quite smart. Before actually landing on the land, I found out the major hotels in Kodikanal through Net. I took a cab and straightaway asked the cab driver to stop the car infront of the hotel of my choice. Exploring Kodaikanal!! After resting a bit, I ventured out to explore the splendorous ambiance of the hill resort. The first place that I thronged to was Berjim Lake. Located at a distance of 21-km from Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu is one among the beautiful lakes of South India. In fact, My local guide told me that lake is spread over an area of 24 hectares. For one hour, I was in my boat in the midddle of the exotic lake. He also told me that the if I want to try some sports, Golf club is nearby. Golf club was 5 km from the beautiful lake. I didn't even left the minutest of oppurtunity where I could miss fun. Apparently, I tried trekking on the Palani hills where I opted for short routes. For trekking I actually had to contact the Trek Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. |
