Coorg
Situated on western ghats of Karanataka, the hill station boost an exotic natural environment. It is a perfect summer retreat for wise travelers like me.

Coorg was another hill station that I explored during my voyage in India. Coorg is situated on the Western Ghats of Karnataka in South India. For the people like me who are adventurous at heart, it is a perfect retreat. Coorg offered me an array of activities like trekking, golfing and angling. In fact, I would like to say that Coorg is a complete holiday destination, for a discerning travelers like me.

Nomenclature!
Another interesting factor that I came to know was that Coorg is called the 'Scotland of India' and 'Kashmir of the South' by the people who have visited the enthralling abode. It is beautiful hill country most of which lies between 3000 and 4000 feet high.

The hill station is liked through air, rail and road so that travelers like us don't face any problem in commuting. The nearest airports are Mangalore 136 km and Bangalore 260 km and the nearest railway station to Coorg is at Mysore 114 km.

Exploring Coorg!!
As I was new to the place I opted for a sightseeing tour that covered some of the major tourist spots in Coorg The first one that I looked out for was the 19th century fort in the center of the Madikeri town that visualized some of the most ferocious battles of its time. I was quite surprised to see a small museum within the complex that showcased some historical paintings, arms, armors and possessions of the past rulers, the prison. The fort also contains a small palace within the complex.

Then I explored the Sri Omkareshwara Temple, one of the ancient temple devoted to Lord Shiva. My guide told me that it was built in 1820 by the then King of Coorg. This temple had a unique architecture that involved a perfect blend of Islamic and Gothic style of architecture. Every year at the end of November, a colorful temple festival is held here.

In fact, as an excursion I went to Bhagamandala, 30 km from Coorg. It is famous for temples and is known as the temple town of this region. This enchanting abode is also holds importance as here Cauvery is at its confluence with river Sujyothi and Kannike.
