A Prayer to the Lord Our Father in heaven Holy be your name Your Kingdom Come Your Will be done On Earth as in heaven Give us today, our daily bread And forgive us for sins as we Forgive those who sin against us Don't bring to test But deliver from evil - Amen I started my Sunday morning with a prayer at The Church of Lady Of Rosary. Why Sunday? I did asked my guide, Adeesh and he said On Sunday's almost all the churches are open for the people. This was the first Church I visited, in the exotic land, popularly known as the Rome of East. My escort informed me that this Church was built in 1543 on the Holy bound close to the convent of St Monica and St Augustine.Well after looking at the architecture, it was apparent to me that the structure followed the Manueline style, a blending of later Gothic and Renaissance. After seeing the beauty of this synagogue, I could not resist myself to throng to other Churches. I was also impressed by the tranquility that surrounded the church. Since most of the famous churches lies in Old Goa, I decided to move on to the next church, Se Cathedral, the largest church in Goa. As I entered the synagogue, I got mesmerized by it's vaulted interior that overwhelms its sheer grandeur. What? This came out when Adeesh informed me that it took 62 years to complete the monument The Father there, told me that this church is dedicated to St Catherine. Its enticing architectural style which was half Tuscan and half -Doric on the exteriors, and followed Mosaico-Corinthian in interiors left me spellbound. While having a walk along the road Adeesh told me about the most famous church in Goa Basilica of Bomb Jesus. He supplimented my knowledge by giving information about its unique three storey fascade. I was not able to restrain myself and quickly grabbed the oppurtunity when he offered me a chance to visit this synagogue. The church was a combination of Doric, Corinthian and composite style structure. My escort took me to the Chapel and Tomb of St Francis Xavier that lies in the close vicinity. One of my friends, Steven asked me to pay homage at the Church of Saint Francis Of Assisi built in 1661. So I somehow forced Adeesh to take me to this entralling church. The gilded and carved murals depicting scenes from the life of Saint Francis were the most impressive feature of this Church. Adeesh also took me to the museum located at the back of the Church. The museum has a rich collection of portraits of Portuguese Viceroys. By the time we finished exploring Church Saint Francis Of Assisi, I was too tired to take another step. So I decided to get back to my resort. Although today i regret that I missed few more enthralling churches like the Church of Saint Monica, the Church of St Alex and the Rachol Seminary. |
