Shopping has never been easy for me but when I saw the colorful bazaars of Delhi, I couldn't resist myself and thronged to the various Shopping destination in Delhi. Since I was new to the place, I had to take the help of my Indian friend, Jai. Jai is living in India for last 35 years, though he was born in New York. I came to know Jai through a conference held in Delhi few months ago and since then we have become good friends. Jai was living in Defence Colony, New Delhi, one of the posh area of Delhi region. He called me for an evening tea Hey! Let go to Barista for a coffee in South Ex he said Ya! I have heard about the place, what's that? I asked . you see for yourself! Come! he replied. The Branded Showrooms! As I entered South Ex, I found that this place was not different from any other market in U.S. I saw the different branded showrooms like Nike, Addidas and food chains like Barista, Pizza hut. All that matter was the ambiance of the place, that I was quite familiar of. Hey! I would love to visit other markets too I proclaimed Are you sure, Wilson Jai asked curiously. The way he asked this question was different and I suspected him. Ya!! I am I replied. Real Delhi!! Ok! then we will go to Chandi Chowk tomorrow He said amusingly. With perception that Chandni Chowk will be same like South Ex, I thought of picking some branded articles from there. But to my shock, Chandi Chowk was a complete contrast to South Ex, it had narrow lanes with shops on both the sides and very chaotic. The market was overcrowded with people, auto rickshaw, cycles and almost everything one could think of. But I did shopped Silk, jewelery, Semi precious stones and brass ware from there. These are exclusive of this market. Karol Bagh, a market of similar nature, was no different from Chadni Chowk. The Haat close to Heart!!! I also visited the Delhi haat, near INA market, developed by Delhi tourism. The market displayed almost everything that India boost of. The shops there are Eco friendly and it the shape of huts. I purchased Kashmiri products from Kashmiri Stall, funky jewelery and many other things. The market was crowded with college going youth. The market also had food stall with in the complex. I had to buy a ticket of Rs 10 ( price at my time) from the counter to get the entry into the market. I also visited the Cannaught place, having colonial architecture. The shops were quite big and offered a good shooping area. An entire range of Indian handicrafts and handlooms from all over the country can be found at the State Emporia on Baba Kharak Singh Marg and at the Central Cottage Industries Emporium on Janpath. I also explored Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar and Janpath. Janpath in particular sold export quality products. |
