Qutab Minar
The tallest building of India holds a significant place for itself in the Indian heritage.

“Hey! Where are we heading towards?” I asked my guide, Ram, who was provided to us within the packaged tour by the DTDC ( Delhi Tourism Development Corporation).

He told us that we are visiting one of the tallest building of Delhi as well India - Qutub Minar. Qutub Minar is in south Delhi and is 13 km from Cannaught place. On the way to Qutub Minar, Our guide deatiled us the history of the enthralling edifice. He told us that this building was started by Qutub-ud- din Aibak in 1119. The sultan successors Ilttumish completed the edifice.

All of us got down from the bus and it actually took 15 minutes from the main gate to reach the interior of the complex. There was long pathway made in stones that took us to the Minar. “ My God!! it's so high” exclaimed one of my fellow tourist. On this our guide told us that the Minar is 72.5 meters high and it take around 379 steps to be on the top.

The building had a beautiful mughal architecture. Apart from the magnificient building the complex had many other architectural monuments that are realtively significant in Qutub Minar history.Like the Quwwat-Ul-Islam Masjid that mark Qutub-ud-din victory over Rai Pithora, Qutub-ud-Din Aibak built the Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid (Might of Islam) in 1192.

I especially liked the Tomb of Iltutmish that was built in 1235 A.D. It is a plain square chamber of redstone, profusely carved with inscriptions, geometrical and arabsque pattern in Sarcenic traditions on the interiors and the enterances.

North east of Minar lies another magnificient monument, Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, that was built by Qutub-ud -din Aibak in 1198. I was impressed by the architecture. It had a rectangular courtyard enclosed by cloisters.

On the North of Qutub Minar lies the Alai Darwaza. The gate was built on Islamic principles. This is amongst the first building employing accurate construction and geometric oranamentation.

“ Hey! What are they doing” I pointed a person who was trying to fold his hands on big Iron pillar. “ Ya! It is considered lucky if your hands join at the end” the guid replied. “ But, it's not for this puirpose, it has a significant history” The Iron pillar has inscription in Sanskrit, Indian Language, and this pillar dates back to 4th centuary.
