Old Delhi
Old Delhi stores a magnificent pas for itself and houses few of the historical monuments of India.

To be very frank I haven't seen a city like old Delhi till yet!! Although Old Delhi had magnificient past in the Indian history, the situation right now is pathetic. It is an interesting fact to note that within Delhi you will find two places with utter contrast-New Delhi and Old Delhi. New Delhi represents a cosmopolitan nature but old Delhi ..............No words for it. I can say that it is small city in Delhi itself. The chaotic city of Delhi.

The old walled city of Shahjananbad stands west of the Red fort. I also saw the persisting architecture of Mughal times, like the Kashmere Gate, Ajmeri Gate, Delhi Gate, Feroz Shah Kotla. The Kashmiri gate at the north end of the walled city, was the scene from desperate fighting when British retook Delhi during Mandi. It is the British errected Mutiny Memorial to the soldiers who lost their lives in the events of the uprising.

I was astound to look at the colorful market , Chandni Chowk, that forms the main street of the old Delhi. Chandni Chowk has the distinction of being perhaps the only trade market that also houses an equally amazing number of places of worship of all the prominent Indian religions. Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity and Jainism exist side by sides in the 2 km. stretch between Fatehpuri Masjid to Red Fort aloneThank God, Jai, my Indian Friend was with me. The place is hopeless as round the clock congested with all forms of vehicles and people.

At the end of the Chandni Chowk, there is Jain Temple. The temple has a small marble courtyard surrounded by colonnade.

I also visited the magnificent Red Fort or 'Lal qila' that extends from 2 km and vary in height from 18 meters on the river side to 33 m on the city side. Jai told me that this fort was a mastermind of Shahjahan and he started building the fort in 1638 and the fort was completed in 1648.
