Lotus Temple / Bahai Temple
Set amidst pools and gardens, and adherents of any faith are free to visit the Bahai temple and pray or meditate silently according to their own religion.

“ Hey have you heard about Bahai faith” asked Geeta. “ Ya, I know about it” I replied. Bahá'í Faith has accredited representation with the United Nations Headquarters in New York since 1948.

" Wilson! What's the day today?" Geeta asked hastly. " It's Wednesday but why?" I asked. She then told that Lotus temple remains closed on Mondays. And another important thing that she told me was that the time for Bahai temple in summer is different and winters, it is different. In Summer it opens at 9 a.m and closes at 7 pm and in winters i.e from october till March, the time is changed . It opens from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.

The mastermind Geeta told me that architectural spectacle was designed by Mr. Fariborz Sahba. In fact, I was mesmerized by its exquisite architecture. The outside structure of the house of worship is constructed into three ranks of nine petals each springing from a podium which elevates the building above the surrounding plain. The temple took six years and eight months to be completed and costed Rs. 10 000 000.

The first two ranks curve inward, embracing the inner dome; the third layer curves outward to form canopies over the nine entrances. The petals, constructed of reinforced white concrete cast in place, are clad in white marble panels, performed to surface profiles and patterns related to the geometry.

" You know what! these nine pools surrounding the building, suggest that they are green leaves of the lotus flower." informed Geeta. Geeta told me that Mr. Sabha, the designer, was presented the award for excellence in religious art and architecture by the US-based Institute of Structural Engineers in the UK, for producing a building that was so emulating in the form of a flower and so striking in its visual impact.
